Dylan Vs. Stereotypes
Now I’m not one for stereotypes, although I do utilize them myself to save time when describing people. In the words of George Clooney’s character in ‘Up In The Air’ “I’m like my mother, I stereotype, it’s faster.”
Not that I believe most people fit into any one stereotype, but as of recent I have come to reflect on how I view myself and where I would categorise me, given I could only use stereotypes. Surprisingly, I found this relatively easy and only needed to employ two simple stereotypes.
Stereotype 1: The Hipster
Because I listen to indie music, I have my own blog, thinks of myself as somewhat deep and has a false sense of worth on the internet.
Stereotype 2: The Bro
Because I am a pretentious, arrogant asshole, who is self-centered, who drinks on a regular basis and is emotionally numb.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the reasoning behind why I think I belong in each stereotype is correct, it’s just how I partly perceive the respective stereotypes and how I believe I fit into them.
But at the same time, I do think I’m not that terrible of a person. I am only human after all, and the qualities that I have that didn’t fit into those two stereotypes are my favourite qualities about myself. All in all, I think I am a pretty awesome, yet flawed person. But then again, that’s just me.
In short, you know you’re a pretentious twat when you write a whole entire blog post on how you view yourself.
