Dylan Vs. Amusement
I am watching a bad movie, unfortunately enough for me it’s not one of those “It’s so bad that it’s good” movies either. In 2004 James Wan a budding director released a film called ‘Saw’, this subsequently created it’s own genre known as ‘Torture Porn’. Ever since, Hollywood has been releasing film after film in the genre trying to milk the cash cow for what it’s worth. Sadly enough, these days it isn’t worth interesting characters or a logical plot.
You may have to wonder what this all has to do with ‘Amusement’, well nothing actually, it’s actually another ‘Torture Porn’ film. Oh and it is not amusing, in the slightest (I’m sorry, I couldn’t help myself). Just so you can fully comprehend how much of a rubbish movie this is we’ll have to look into the release of this movie. It was originally slated for a January 2008 release, but the movie evidentially was pushed back three whole times before Warner Bros. ultimately decides to release it straight to DVD in January 2009. So in short, even the distributor knew this movie was a complete and utter waste of time.

The movie feels like a collection of short films. That’s because it essentially is. The whole movie revolves around three girls that have been friends since school. Each of the girls have their own story in the movie, which in effect plays out as three short horror movies. Then there is the last chapter of the movie which is meant to connect the the three previous chapters and link all the girls stories together. The problem is, it doesn’t work. Still to this point I am not entirely sure what happened, or if I was even meant to care about these two dimensional characters.
I don’t think Hollywood will ever truly learn. ‘Amusement’ definitely hasn’t been the first of it’s kind and depressingly enough, it won’t be the last. Then again, there are some very disturbed individuals who enjoy watching recycled pieces of crap. If you are so inclined on self torture, watch it… but I am warning you now, you won’t be amused.
